My art usually speak first, but since you are here.. hello, my name is Angeline
I answer some questions below in hopes that you can better understand me behind my artworks. Maybe a nice beverage in your hand as we have this little chat.
Why do you make art?
Because there are things I don't always know how to say out loud. Painting has become a way for me to understand life while I'm living it. It helps me make space for wonder, grief, hope, and all the ordinary moments that makes us who we are. If someone spends a few moments with my work and leaves feeling a little more understood or calmer than before, I think I’ve done what I hope to do.
Who is that little girl that appears in many of your paintings?
Her name is Hikari-chan, Hikari (光) meaning light or radiance. Sometimes I see her as a younger or a more grounded version of me. But at the same time, she also isn’t one specific person, but a reminder that we are all finding our way through life.

Garden of the Sea, 2025
What inspires your work?
The moments most people walk past daily. The last light at dusk, a falling leaf, the breeze through our hair, even just standing at the traffic light after work and just noticing the sounds of the evening. Life is filled with ordinary moments, but it is our attention to them that makes those moments magical.
Some people describe your art as peaceful. How do you feel about that?
I’m glad people feel that way about my work, my intent is actually about self-compassion. Life isn’t always peaceful. We experience uncertainty, grief, sense of loss, disappointment.. so I don’t try to paint a world where these things don’t exist. Rather, I hope my work can sit beside people as they move through these seasons and to feel like we’ve been given permission to soften and to breathe a little deeper.
What would you like people to know before they leave?
That none of us are meant to figure life out perfectly. We’re all learning and doing this life for the first time. I hope my work can be a companion for that journey, to stay curious to look towards the light and to meet ourselves with a little more kindness than we did yesterday.
